"Computer glasses" can mean two different things, and that is why people get confused. This guide explains the two types in simple words, so you buy the right one.
Type 1: Zero-power computer glasses
These have no vision power. They only have a coating that filters part of the light from screens. They suit people who see clearly without glasses but spend long hours on a phone, laptop or desktop and want something comfortable.
Type 2: Computer glasses with your power
These have your prescription plus the screen filter. They suit people who already wear glasses, and who would otherwise need two pairs.
Which one are you?
| Your situation | What to choose |
| You see fine, but screens tire your eyes | Zero-power computer glasses, after an eye test to be sure |
| You wear glasses for distance | Your prescription with a blue cut lens |
| You need help with close work only | Computer or reading glasses with a plus power. See reading glasses power |
| You wear bifocals or progressives | A progressive lens with blue cut. See progressive vs bifocal |
Why one pair is better than two
Wearing zero-power computer glasses over your normal glasses adds weight and reflections. It is easier to have the blue cut filter fitted into your own lenses. See computer glasses vs blue-cut lenses.

Glasses help, but habits matter
- Every 20 minutes, look at something far away for 20 seconds.
- Keep the screen slightly below eye level.
- Avoid a bright window behind or in front of the screen.
- Blink often. Screens make us blink less.
If your eyes still hurt, get an eye test. See what blue light glasses can and cannot do.
