Most problems with new glasses can be traced back to something that was not checked when the order was placed. A few minutes at the counter, or on the order screen, can prevent them. Use this checklist before you approve and pay.
1. The prescription is written correctly
- Right (R/OD) and left (L/OS) eyes are in the right rows
- Plus and minus signs are correct
- SPH, CYL and AXIS match your slip, with CYL and AXIS as a pair
- ADD is included if you have one
Not sure how to read it? See how to read a prescription slip.
2. The PD is recorded
PD determines where the optical centre of each lens sits. Ask whether it has been measured or noted. If it is not on your slip, ask how it will be confirmed. See measuring your PD.
3. The frame is the one you chose
Check the model, colour and size on the order. If you are buying online, compare with the product page. If a frame size is unfamiliar, see our frame size guide.
4. The lens type and material are what you discussed
Single vision, bifocal or progressive. The lens material and thickness. If a thinner lens was recommended for your power, check that it is on the order. See how to choose lenses.
5. The coatings and features are listed
Anti-reflective, scratch-resistant, blue-light filtering, photochromic or tint: each should appear on the order exactly as agreed. If a feature was verbally promised but is not written down, ask for it to be added.
6. The total price is itemised
Frame, lenses, coatings and any extra charge, with a final total. See how much prescription glasses cost for what to expect on the bill.
7. The estimated ready date is stated
Ask for it to be written on the order, and ask what could change it. See how long glasses take to make.
8. You know the process if something is wrong
Ask what happens if the spectacles are made incorrectly, and how refund or replacement requests are handled. See what to do if your spectacles are made incorrectly.
9. You have a copy
Take a photo or copy of the order, and keep the bill. If you need a review later, it makes everything quicker.
