Quick answer: Yes, Deepak Opticals repairs spectacles in Aligarh, including frames bought from other stores. Loose screws, bent frames, worn nose pads and broken arms are often repairable, depending on the material and parts. We look at the damage first and tell you what can be done before any work starts. Cost and time depend on the case.
Broken glasses do not always mean a new pair. Many common faults can be repaired, and an honest repairer will also tell you when they cannot. This guide covers what spectacle repair usually involves, what to bring to the shop, and what to ask so that you know what you are agreeing to before work starts.
Problems we are asked about most
- Loose or missing screws. Hinge and rim screws work loose with daily wear. Tightening or replacing one is often a small job, provided the thread in the frame is still intact.
- Bent or misaligned frames. A frame that sits crooked can often be realigned, though how well depends on the material.
- Worn or uncomfortable nose pads. On frames with adjustable pads, the pads can usually be replaced or repositioned.
- Broken or loose temples (arms). Depending on where it has broken and what the frame is made of, a temple may be repairable, replaceable or beyond repair.
- Lenses that need replacing in a frame you want to keep. The frame needs to be checked for compatibility first. See frame replacement versus lens replacement.
Frames bought elsewhere are welcome
You do not need to have bought your spectacles from Deepak Opticals. Whether a repair is possible, what it costs and how long it takes depend on the individual pair, so we look at the damage first.
What to bring
- The damaged spectacles, and every broken piece and screw
- Your prescription, if you have it
- A note of what happened and when
- The bill or order details, if you have them (useful if the fault may be under warranty)
The shop is open 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Monday to Saturday. Call or WhatsApp first if you would like to describe the problem or send a photo before travelling.
Questions to ask any repairer
- Can this be repaired at all? A straight answer, including "no", is a good sign.
- What will it cost? Ask for the figure before work starts, not after.
- How long will it take? It varies with the damage and the parts needed.
- What are the risks to my lenses and coating? Some repairs mean removing the lenses.
- What if the repair does not hold? Ask what happens next.
- Would replacing be better value? If a repair costs nearly as much as a new frame, you should know. See repair versus replacement.
At Deepak Opticals, we tell you what can be done, and what it is likely to involve, before any work starts, rather than quoting from a list.
What not to do before you bring them in
- Do not use superglue. It can damage the lenses and coatings, and a glued break is harder to repair properly afterwards.
- Do not bend a cracked frame back into shape. It often breaks completely.
- Do not keep tightening a stripped screw with a makeshift tool. You can damage the thread.
- Do not throw away small pieces. They can matter.
When a repair will not be worth it
Cracked-through frames, discontinued designs with no spare parts and frames that no longer hold adjustment are often better replaced. If your lenses are in good condition and your prescription is current, they may be reusable in a new frame, but that needs to be checked. For prevention, see how to clean and maintain your spectacles. If your lenses are the problem, see can scratched lenses be repaired?
